Dear Parents of children preparing for the Sacraments of Confirmation and “first” Eucharist

"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs." Mark 10:14

This year your child will have an opportunity to celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and (first) Eucharist or the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Easter Season.   This is an important step in his/her faith life.  Parents, parish and school share the responsibilities in preparing the children for these celebrations.

In order to better understand and prepare well for the reception of these Easter Sacraments, there will be a number of gatherings and liturgies offered at the parish level.   Please keep in mind the following dates for your child’s celebration of the Sacrament.

Here at the parish of St. Augustine we are offering a number of Adult Faith programs which will be held in the parish hall.    The main purpose of these sessions is to better understand our Faith and the Sacraments.   It is important that you participate as much as possible to accompany your child’s preparation at school.   More and more parishes are offering catechetical programs for Adult Faith Development.  Please join us on Thurs. Oct. 22, 6;30 pm Nov.14 and Dec. 12 at 2pm

Rite of Enrolment liturgies will be on weekend masses of Nov. 22, Saturday 4;30 pm,  or Sunday 9am or 10;30,  on the Feast of Christ the King.   This weekend is set/aside for candidates of the Sacrament of Confirmation.    On the weekend masses of Jan. 10, 2016, Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, candidates of (first) Eucharist will be received at any weekend mass.   Enrolment mass is to celebrate the candidates preparation time for the Sacraments in a welcoming rite.   Children are asked to present their Baptism certificate, ideally decorated with Christian symbols and placed on colored paper.   At this same mass children will receive a memento from the parish to mark this occasion.

The celebration and times of the Sacraments will be in the Easter Season, following Easter Sunday which is celebrated March 27.  Celebration of (first) Eucharist will be on Sunday April 10 at 1;30 pm, St. Augustine church.  Please note this is for ALL candidates of First Communion.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be at a specific date in the Easter Season, celebrated by all candidates from both parish schools.   Let us keep in prayer  all children preparing for these Easter Sacraments.

Respectfully “yours in Christ”

Fr Frank Scott, Pastor
